GEORGIA — A 66-year-old woman died Friday night after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Macon Road and Rigdon Road, according to the Columbus Police Department.
Police identified the victim as Shirley Ann Lewis. She was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said.
The crash occurred in front of the school board headquarters on Macon Road. Investigators said the Columbus Police Department’s Motor Squad is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the coroner, the driver involved in the crash was released. Toxicology samples have been submitted to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for analysis.
No additional details, including whether charges may be filed, were immediately available as the investigation continues.
