FLORIDA — A 63-year-old man has died after being struck by an SUV Friday night in Sarasota County, according to authorities.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash occurred at the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and Belmont Boulevard.
Troopers said the SUV was traveling east in the center lane of Bee Ridge Road when the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway.
Authorities said the man was walking north from the south side of Bee Ridge Road across the eastbound lanes outside of a marked crosswalk when he entered the path of the vehicle and was struck.
The pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Officials said the driver of the SUV was not injured.
No additional details, including the identity of the victim, have been released.
The crash remains under investigation.
