
NORTH CAROLINA — Selma police are investigating a train accident that left a man dead Tuesday morning in Smithfield.
According to Johnston County dispatchers, the call came in shortly before 5:30 a.m. The accident happened on South Pollock Street near N.C. Highway 42 and U.S. 301.
Selma police confirmed around 8 a.m. that the man died from his injuries.
Officers were seen in the area behind a nearby shopping center, with police cruisers in the parking lot and investigators searching the wooded area near the train tracks.
The Selma Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
