
FLORIDA — A pedestrian was killed in a train collision Sunday morning in Indian River County, according to authorities.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 7:20 a.m. to a crash involving a freight train and a pedestrian at the 77th Street railroad crossing, just west of Old Dixie Highway in Wabasso.
Investigators said the pedestrian, identified as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the victim’s name has not yet been released as officials work to notify next of kin.
Railroad officials are assisting in the investigation.
Officials also reported that several nearby railroad crossings were temporarily closed due to the incident and the length of the train. Drivers were advised to use alternate routes.
The investigation remains ongoing.
