FLORIDA — A pedestrian was killed early Sunday after being struck by a Brightline train in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. near the 700 block of North Andrews Avenue, just north of the Brightline station.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Frank Guzman, the man was still alive but pinned underneath the locomotive when crews arrived at the scene. During rescue efforts, the victim lost a pulse and was later pronounced dead after being extricated from beneath the train.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and the Florida East Coast Railway also assisted at the scene.
The fatal incident comes amid several recent train-related accidents in South Florida. On Friday afternoon, a southbound Brightline train crashed into a car in Delray Beach, leaving a man hospitalized. The train had departed from the West Palm Beach station and was headed to Boca Raton.
On Saturday night, another train crash in West Palm Beach left one person dead and another hospitalized after pedestrians were struck by a freight train.
