OHIO — Deputies are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive in a roadway Tuesday afternoon in Champaign County.
According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called just before 12:30 p.m. to Dolly Varden Road near State Route 54 after a report of a man lying in the roadway.
When deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found the man outside of a vehicle. He was breathing but had suffered significant head trauma and substantial blood loss. A black Kia Sorento was located parked nearby and showed no visible signs of damage.
Investigators said preliminary findings do not indicate the man was involved in a traffic crash. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
The investigation remains ongoing. Deputies are working with Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
