INDIANA — A mass shooting early Sunday morning in Elkhart left one person dead and at least 11 others injured, according to the Elkhart Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene in the 300 block of West Garfield Avenue shortly after 1:10 a.m.
Authorities confirmed that one of the injured victims was later pronounced dead.
Some of the others hurt in the shooting have since been treated and released from local hospitals.
Investigators believe that multiple individuals may have fired weapons during the incident. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has been activated to lead the investigation.
No suspect information has been released at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
