OHIO — A suspect is in custody and one person was injured following a police pursuit that ended in a crash in downtown Toledo on Monday afternoon.
According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to a call about a suspicious person in the 2100 block of Caledonia around 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they saw an unidentified male holding a rifle. The suspect fled on foot and, while jumping a fence, the rifle discharged. Police said they do not believe the suspect fired at officers.
The suspect then got into a vehicle that appeared to be waiting on Caledonia and fled the area. A second vehicle also left the scene, prompting officers to pursue both vehicles.
One vehicle entered I-280 northbound at Front Street and was able to evade police. The second vehicle was later spotted on Burger Street, where several people exited and were detained. However, one occupant moved into the driver’s seat and drove away, leading officers on another pursuit.
The chase continued toward downtown and reached the intersection of Summit and Cherry streets near the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge at approximately 4:39 p.m. Police said the suspect vehicle ran a red light and crashed into a white car traveling through the intersection.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as 18-year-old Antoniyo Perkins, was arrested. The suspect initially seen with the rifle had not been located at the time the report was released.
One person involved in the crash was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
