KENTUCKY — A man is facing a long list of charges after deputies say he led them on a high-speed chase Tuesday evening in Washington County.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Luke Mudd attempted to stop a vehicle traveling 84 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 555.
Authorities said the driver, identified as Samuel Lance Tatum, refused to pull over and instead accelerated, leading deputies on a pursuit at very high speeds.
During the chase, deputies said Tatum made several unsafe turns, drove against traffic and attempted to strike a deputy’s cruiser. The pursuit ended when Tatum lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guardrail. Chief Deputy Lynn Davis then used his cruiser to pin the vehicle against the guardrail.
Officials said Tatum fled on foot but was quickly apprehended after a chase through a nearby field.
Tatum is now facing numerous charges, including reckless driving, multiple counts of fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, and several traffic-related offenses.
The incident remains under investigation.
