
VIRGINIA — A Richmond man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old woman Sunday night, just one day before her 34th birthday.
Police said officers responded at 9:33 p.m. on Aug. 24 to the 500 block of Hunt Avenue for a report of a person shot. When they arrived, they found Johnnita Russell, 33, of Richmond, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Richmond Police Department, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, arrested 57-year-old Michael Sprague of Richmond in connection with the shooting. He has been charged with shooting within an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Officials said additional charges are pending.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine Russell’s exact cause and manner of death.
