LOUISIANA — A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of a teenager in Sunset after authorities said they discovered a modified firearm and suspected drugs at a residence, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified the suspect as 17-year-old Khrystian Kimble, of Sunset.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said narcotics detectives received a tip reporting gunfire at night and suspected drug trafficking at a home on Mills Road. The investigation led to a search warrant being issued.

During the search, deputies reported seizing a 9mm pistol believed to be illegally modified with an extended magazine, along with two digital scales and a locked safe containing suspected cocaine.

Kimble is charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer. Authorities said he also had outstanding warrants from Lafayette Parish for nine counts of simple burglary of a vehicle and six counts of other attempted crimes.

Officials said Kimble was already under house arrest for aggravated battery and illegal possession of weapons at the time of the incident. Detectives located him hiding on a neighboring property while wearing an ankle monitor, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff Guidroz said the case highlights the importance of Crime Stoppers programs, which allow residents to anonymously report criminal activity.

The investigation remains ongoing.
