OHIO — A Bellefontaine man was arrested Monday night after police said he was driving erratically through the city.
According to a report from the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m. to the area of South Main Street and Lake Avenue following a report of a white Honda SUV being driven all over the roadway.
Officers later located the vehicle on East Columbus Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as 41-year-old James Dick.
Police reported detecting the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from Dick and noted that he showed multiple signs of intoxication. Dick told officers he had just finished bowling and admitted to drinking several beers while playing.
Dick failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence. He was transported to the Bellefontaine Police Department, where he refused to complete additional sobriety testing and declined to take a breath test.
According to police, Dick has prior OVI convictions from 2008, 2014, and 2019, along with a prior physical control conviction in 2009. His driver’s license was seized and sent to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, resulting in a license suspension.
Dick was later transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was lodged on an OVI charge.
