NORTH CAROLINA — A 46-year-old woman is facing felony charges after police say she failed to return a rented U-Haul van in Moore County.
According to Aberdeen police, Cecily Nicole Cromartie was arrested Saturday, Sept. 27, following an investigation that began the day before at Jus Storage, a U-Haul neighborhood dealer. Police said Cromartie rented a van for two days but never brought it back. Attempts by the storage company to contact her were unsuccessful.
Officers went to the address Cromartie provided on her rental application but found the home abandoned. Additional efforts to locate her also failed, police said.
Investigators later learned Cromartie already had an outstanding warrant from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office for felony failure to return a hired motor vehicle stemming from a similar incident in April. A second warrant was issued for the September case.
Cromartie was taken into custody and served with both warrants before being released under custody conditions. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
