OHIO — A man accused of attempting to abduct a woman near a Grandview Heights apartment complex is now in custody, police confirmed.
Matthew Spencer, 41, was wanted on a third-degree felony charge of abduction in connection with an incident on Dec. 11 in the Grandview Yard area.
According to the Grandview Heights Division of Police, a woman reported being grabbed from behind by a man wearing a surgical mask while walking to a residence at the Apartments at the Yard on Baldwin Drive around 9:30 p.m.
The suspect allegedly tried to pull the victim toward a car in a nearby parking lot and threatened to harm her. However, the woman was able to break free and escape.
Spencer, who is currently on parole after pleading guilty in a 2018 burglary case, was arrested Monday and is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
Court records show a lengthy criminal history for Spencer, including prior charges of burglary, escape, aggravated vehicular assault, drug trafficking, domestic violence, drug possession, and violation of a protection order.
Police are asking anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Grandview Heights Division of Police at 614-488-7901.
