GEORGIA — A man is in custody after allegedly attempting to abduct a 10-year-old girl in Carroll County on Friday, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on Old Highway 27 South, where the girl was sitting on her front porch when the suspect, identified as Nicholas Gosdin, approached her.
Witnesses say Gosdin began talking about construction materials in an apparent attempt to lure the child away from the home. When she refused, he allegedly grabbed her arms and tried to restrain her.
The child was able to break free and ran inside to alert her family, who quickly intervened.
Following the incident, Gosdin reportedly fled the scene and approached a nearby elderly resident, asking to enter their home.
After being denied entry, he ran toward a wooded area near Roopville Elementary School.
A witness followed him in a vehicle, and another individual detained him near the school’s baseball fields until deputies arrived.
Gosdin was taken into custody by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and is facing several charges, including simple battery, cruelty to children, false imprisonment, and kidnapping.
He appeared before a magistrate judge on Monday and was denied bond. He remains in the Carroll County Jail.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have seen Gosdin in the area or has video footage—such as from home security or doorbell cameras—to contact Investigator Ametrice Jackson at 770-830-5916 or ajackson@carrollsheriffga.gov.
