SOUTH CAROLINA — A man is facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder, after a domestic disturbance led to gunfire Thursday night in Oconee County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies responded to a home on White Harbour Road near Seneca for a reported domestic disturbance. As they arrived, deputies said they heard gunfire. A man, later identified as 55-year-old Michael Wayne Witt, came out of the house and fired several shots in the direction of a deputy.
Authorities said Witt repeatedly entered and exited the home while refusing commands before approaching deputies. He was eventually subdued with a Taser and taken into custody.
During a sweep of the home, deputies learned from a woman involved in the incident that she had fled after Witt allegedly fired at her and held a gun to her head.
Witt was transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital before being booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on Friday morning.
He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, breach of peace aggravated in nature, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and malicious injury to real property.
