KENTUCKY — A Bowling Green man faces multiple charges after police say he attempted and carried out burglaries at local vape shops on Sunday.

According to the Bowling Green Police Department, officers were dispatched to Vape World at 2522 Scottsville Road after a caller whispered “send help” and a burglary alarm glass break was triggered. Upon arrival, officers located 21-year-old Carlos Paez of Bowling Green, who fled behind the business.

Police said Paez fell into a creek bed while reaching for his coat and waistband, prompting an officer to draw a service weapon. Paez continued to flee, passing behind several restaurants and into a wooded area before being detained with a taser.

During a search, authorities found a long knife and drug paraphernalia on Paez. Police reported that he had stolen at least two vape cartridge boxes and five cartridges from Vape World.

Surveillance also linked Paez to an earlier attempted break-in at Smoke and Vape on Scottsville Road, where he was seen kicking doors and windows but was unsuccessful due to an alarm.

Paez is currently held at the Warren County Regional Jail and faces charges including first-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, attempted first-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking from a building, drug paraphernalia possession, and resisting arrest. An E-warrant was also served on him.
