OHIO — A 39-year-old man was arrested Friday morning following a standoff with police at a home in Mercer County.

Celina police responded to a domestic violence call shortly before 9 a.m. in the 500 block of South Walnut Street.

According to a social media post from the department, officers arrived to find Dustin Lawson standing in the doorway holding a 10-inch filet knife.

He then barricaded himself inside the home, prompting a 90-minute standoff.

Police said Lawson allegedly assaulted two women prior to their arrival. A 15-year-old was also inside the residence, but officers were able to safely remove the child through a bedroom window.

During the standoff, Lawson reportedly came outside several times but refused to surrender.

Police deployed a less-lethal shotgun loaded with bean bag rounds, but Lawson ran back into the house and locked the door.

As officers began to force entry through the front, Lawson attempted to flee out the back but was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.

He was booked into the Mercer County Jail on charges including domestic violence, assault, inducing panic, obstructing official business, and resisting arrest.

At the time of the incident, Lawson was out on bond for a previous felony charge related to failing to comply with a police order.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is currently reviewing the case.
