One person arrested following stabbing incident in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A Winchester man is in custody following a violent domestic incident over the weekend that left two people injured, according to court documents filed in Frederick County.

David Jose Zelaya Alvarez, 31, of the 1500 block of Caroline Street, was arraigned Monday in Frederick County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

He faces felony charges of malicious wounding, stabbing in the commission of a felony, and breaking and entering with intent to commit assault and battery. He also faces a misdemeanor count of domestic assault and battery.

Deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of a stabbing and shots fired at a home in the 600 block of Canterbury Lane, just north of Winchester.

Upon arrival, they encountered Zelaya Alvarez, who told deputies he had gone to the home to meet his wife after work.

According to a criminal complaint, Zelaya Alvarez admitted he “went crazy” after seeing his wife’s new boyfriend’s car in the driveway.

He then forced his way into the home, broke into the master bedroom, and during a struggle, picked up a knife that had fallen to the floor and stabbed the boyfriend “several times.”

He also allegedly pushed his wife, causing a laceration to the back of her head.

Both victims were transported to Winchester Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Sheriff Lenny Millholland said.

During the altercation, the woman’s uncle reportedly fired four gunshots in Zelaya Alvarez’s direction as the fight moved outside.

The shots were fired near Zelaya Alvarez’s 4-year-old son, whom he had brought with him to the home. The child was not injured, though blood was found on his clothing, according to the complaint.

Zelaya Alvarez is being held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 11.
