One person arrested following stabbing incident in Virginia

VIRGINIA — A Frederick County man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stabbing his father on Sunday, just days after being charged in a separate incident involving assaults on sheriff’s deputies.

Shane Charlie Snyder, 31, of the 100 block of Willowbrook Court, has been charged with malicious wounding, stabbing in the commission of a felony, assault and battery, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

He is currently being held without bond at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center and appeared in Frederick County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Tuesday.

According to a criminal complaint, deputies with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to Snyder’s residence on Sunday for a reported stabbing.

They found a man, identified as Snyder’s father, suffering from a stab wound to his back. The victim told authorities he was attacked without warning.

A witness reported that Snyder called her shortly after the incident and admitted to stabbing his father three times.

While clearing the residence, deputies also found a firearm believed to belong to Snyder. Due to a prior domestic assault and battery conviction in July—resulting in a 60-day suspended sentence—Snyder is legally prohibited from possessing firearms.

Just days earlier, on May 20, deputies conducted a welfare check at Snyder’s home. According to another complaint, Snyder became aggressive, shouted at a deputy, and resisted arrest. Once detained, he allegedly spit at two deputies and kicked one.

He was charged with two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, and disorderly conduct. He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned in Frederick County General District Court on those charges June 6.

Snyder is scheduled to appear in court on August 11 for the felony charges related to the stabbing.

Court records show Snyder was also convicted of obstruction of justice in connection with a January 23, 2024, incident at the same address, during which he damaged property and resisted arrest. He was fined $250 in that case.
