VIRGINIA — A suspect has been arrested and charged following a domestic incident that led to a shootout with police on Saturday, August 16.

Chesterfield County Police said they were called around 5:05 p.m. to the 3500 block of West Hundred Road for a reported domestic situation involving weapons.

A woman at the residence told officers that a man had prevented her and her children from leaving the house and fired a gun out of a window. She and her children were able to get out safely before police arrived.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Christopher R. Wirth, refused to leave the home, prompting officers to shut down the roadway and secure the area. According to police, Wirth “used a rifle to fire several shots out of the house’s front window.” Officers returned fire before Wirth eventually exited the house and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Wirth has been charged with attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, assault on a law enforcement officer, and shooting a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school.

The case remains under investigation. Police ask anyone with information to call the Chesterfield County Police Department at 804-748-1251.
