SOUTH CAROLINA — A Florence man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this month, police said.
Kareem Vakim Jones, 24, was taken into custody Tuesday night and charged with seven counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, breach of peace (high and aggravated), possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and shooting into a dwelling.
The charges stem from an August 1 incident on the 1300 block of W. Dixie Street. Officers responding to the scene found seven people inside the residence and multiple bullet holes inside and outside the apartment.
Investigators determined that Jones argued with one of the residents, then called the victim outside to fight. According to warrants, Jones pulled out a gun and fired at seven individuals, including two minors, before fleeing.
Police said a victim later provided a photo of Jones from social media. Using SLED facial recognition technology, officers identified him as the suspect. His criminal history revealed prior felony charges prohibiting him from having a firearm.
Jones is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.
