VIRGINIA — A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place at a Dollar General store in Bassett, Virginia, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Wayne Davis said Charles Edward Mills turned himself in to deputies at around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. He was taken into custody without incident.
Mills is charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and attempted robbery. He is being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.
Investigators said evidence indicates gunfire was exchanged between the two victims and another suspect or suspects during the incident.
“Our investigators worked tirelessly through the night following up on leads and processing evidence,” Sheriff Davis said in a statement. “Thanks to their dedication — and the cooperation of our community — a suspect is now in custody. We remain committed to holding everyone involved accountable and ensuring the safety of our citizens.”
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 638-8751 or Crime Stoppers at (276) 63-CRIME (276-632-7463). Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
