OHIO — A 47-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night following a shooting on the city’s south side, according to Franklin County Municipal Court documents.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Smith and Lockbourne roads, near the Stop “N” Shop market, around 9:35 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition but is expected to survive, according to Sgt. Joe Albert.
Investigators reviewed footage from a Flock camera located at the intersection, which captured the shooting and showed a possible suspect fleeing eastbound.
Officers located and detained the suspect about a quarter-mile from the scene.
The suspect, identified as Anton Payne, was taken to Columbus Police Headquarters, where he admitted to being at the scene, shooting the victim with a handgun, and then fleeing.
Payne is currently being held at the James A. Karnes Corrections Center. He is charged with felonious assault and weapons under disability. His court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
