OHIO — A suspect is in custody and a woman was rescued after an active shooter situation Thursday morning.
Police said the woman was injured by gunfire through the wall of her apartment at Versailles Gardens, while the shooter was in a separate unit.
Officers described the scene as an active shooting because the suspect was firing indiscriminately before being taken into custody by SWAT. Several weapons were reportedly recovered.
The incident began shortly before 9 a.m. on Applegrove Street Northeast. Police rescued the victim under “heavy gunfire” and advised the public to avoid the area. By 10:30 a.m., authorities said the situation was contained but ongoing.
The shooting prompted lockdowns at several area schools and an assisted living facility. Walsh University temporarily placed students and staff on shelter-in-place but lifted the order just after 10 a.m., stating the campus was not directly threatened and operations could return to normal.
No further details on the suspect or the woman’s condition have been released.
