OHIO — A North Royalton man is facing several charges after a police pursuit in Warren involving a vehicle equipped with a remote-controlled license plate cover.

According to Warren police, officers attempted to stop 22-year-old Alexander Solorzano Benavides on Monday night after he allegedly ran a red light at West Market Street and Tod Avenue SW.

Police say Solorzano Benavides failed to stop and led officers through several side streets before driving east on Market Street and onto Central Parkway. Another officer eventually deployed stop sticks, which disabled the 2025 Mercedes-Benz he was driving.

After the vehicle was stopped, officers searched the car and found a loaded rifle on the backseat floorboard, according to the police report.

Investigators said they were initially unable to read the car’s registration during the pursuit because the license plate was covered by a tinted plate cover.

During the search, officers found a remote-control device inside the vehicle. When officers pressed the “off” button, the cover reportedly switched from fully tinted to clear, revealing an Ohio license plate reading “VRROOMM.”

Solorzano Benavides was arrested and charged with failure to comply with a police officer, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of criminal tools related to the license plate cover.

He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court. His bond was set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to return to court on March 16.
