LOUISIANA — A 20-year-old man was arrested Saturday night following a police pursuit that began in Port Allen and ended when his vehicle crashed into a sugar cane field near Brusly High School.

According to the Port Allen Police Department, officers were called around 10 p.m. to a hit-and-run crash near Louisiana Highway 1 and Avenue G. The vehicle involved fled the scene and traveled toward the Intracoastal Bridge.

Police said officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver led them on a brief pursuit before crashing into a sugar cane field along Highway 1, across from Brusly High School.

The driver, identified as Christian Gordan, was taken into custody at the scene. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated flight from an officer, careless operation, and possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

Investigators said Gordan was severely intoxicated at the time of the crash and suffered moderate injuries. He was treated before being booked into jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
