TENNESSEE — A Kingsport man is facing multiple charges after crashing into a home during a police pursuit in Washington County, Tennessee, authorities said.

Sheriff Keith Sexton reported that deputies were patrolling the area of Knob Creek Dock Road shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday when they spotted a vehicle traveling at more than twice the posted speed limit. The driver refused to stop and attempted to flee, eventually crashing into a house in the 200 block of Knob Creek Dock Road.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old John Mark McGuire, exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. Deputies said a pat-down search turned up $3,674 in cash hidden in various spots inside his coat and vehicle.

Officials also located an unlabeled pill bottle containing pills McGuire claimed were Subutex, 10 Suboxone tablets wrapped in cellophane, a set of scales, a burnt pipe, and a pink baggie holding six grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

No injuries were reported inside the home. The Tennessee Highway Patrol was called to investigate the crash, and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

McGuire was charged with possession of methamphetamine, simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia, due care, driving on a revoked or suspended license (second or more offense), evading arrest, speeding, financial responsibility violations, and unlawful removal of a registration decal. He is being held at the Washington County Detention Center on a $55,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. Authorities said additional charges may be filed.
