VIRGINIA — A New Jersey man is in custody following a multi-county police pursuit along Interstate 95 in central and southern Virginia on Friday, authorities said.
According to Virginia State Police, troopers were alerted around 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, to a wanted individual believed to be experiencing possible mental health concerns. The suspect was reported to be traveling southbound on I-95 in Prince George County and approaching the Richmond area.
Troopers located the vehicle near Exit 45 and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Brian L. Weiner of Toms River, New Jersey, refused to stop, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit.
The chase continued south into Sussex County, where authorities said Weiner slowed down. During efforts by troopers to contain the vehicle, multiple state police vehicles were struck by Weiner’s car. The pursuit ended near the 21-mile marker, where troopers were able to contain the situation and take Weiner into custody.
Weiner was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and is pending criminal charges. No troopers were injured during the incident.
Virginia State Police said the investigation into the pursuit remains ongoing.
