INDIANA — A Florida man was arrested Thursday afternoon after Fort Wayne Police say they found more than 65 pounds of cocaine hidden under a dog cage in the back of his pickup truck.
According to a release from the Fort Wayne Police Department, around 1:10 p.m. on Nov. 6, officers with the department’s Narcotics Division pulled over a black 2019 Chevrolet Silverado for speeding.
During the stop, a K-9 unit alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics. Police said the driver, identified as 25-year-old Jordon Wayne Lanier of Ocklawaha, Florida, was asked to step out of the vehicle, and officers noticed a .45 caliber handgun in plain view.
Detectives searched the truck bed and found a large dog cage with a dog inside. Beneath the cage, police discovered 30 individually packaged kilograms of cocaine — roughly 66 pounds — with an estimated street value between $600,000 and $800,000, according to the release.
Lanier was arrested and charged with felony dealing in cocaine and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Court records show Lanier appeared for an initial hearing on Nov. 10 and was released on a $100,000 bond. He is permitted to return to Florida under pretrial supervision, police said.
