SOUTH CAROLINA — A man was arrested following a machete attack reported in the Conway area, according to the Horry County Police Department.

Police said officers were called Sunday to a home along West Highway 501 in response to a reported assault. Investigators said the victim told officers he was outside placing a tarp on a dog crate when he was struck in the back with a machete.

According to police, the victim said he turned around and saw Jimmy Tinney, who then struck him in the left hand with the machete. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not released.

Officers located Tinney inside a shed on the property. Police said they made multiple attempts to get him to come outside before he eventually complied.

Tinney was arrested and charged with assault of a high and aggravated nature. Police said Tinney denied striking the victim or possessing a machete. The investigation remains ongoing.
