NORTH CAROLINA — Deputies with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office made a significant drug seizure on Jan. 8, 2026, after responding to a report of a rental vehicle that had not been returned.
According to sheriff’s officials, deputies located a black 2025 Nissan Rogue with Tennessee license plates in the parking lot of a Circle K on Red Brush Road near Interstate 74. Authorities found Melissa Anne Rogers, 43, of Olympia, Washington, seated in the driver’s seat.
A K-9 unit was called to the scene and alerted to the odor of narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle. Deputies said the search led to the discovery of approximately 205 grams of ketamine, 200 grams of Adderall, about 2.5 pounds of marijuana wax, 141 grams of bath salts, 200 grams of marijuana, 50 Alprazolam pills, and five Adderall pills.
Steve C. Hiatt praised the work of deputies and investigators involved in the case. “This case highlights the importance of proactive enforcement and teamwork in keeping dangerous drugs off the streets or our community,” Hiatt said.
Rogers was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including trafficking amphetamine and cathinones, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver marijuana and ketamine, maintaining a drug vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She is being held at the Surry County Detention Center on a $382,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Surry County District Court on Jan. 28, 2026.
