
NORTH CAROLINA — A Hickory man is facing multiple charges after authorities discovered drugs and firearms during a traffic stop and subsequent apartment search, the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Ta’Shawn Thomas Byrd, 31, was arrested Wednesday during a vehicle stop as part of an ongoing cocaine trafficking investigation.
Investigators said they found approximately 291 grams of cocaine, two Draco firearms, and a pistol in Byrd’s vehicle.
As part of the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a Hickory apartment, where authorities seized an additional 4.83 grams of cocaine, a Draco firearm, and a pistol.
Byrd is charged with trafficking cocaine by possession and by transport, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He is being held at the Catawba County Detention Facility under a $400,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 24.
