NORTH CAROLINA — A 53-year-old man was arrested Saturday night after New Bern police discovered a large quantity of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 70.

Officers said the stop occurred around 10:30 p.m. while they were conducting proactive patrols.

A K-9 unit alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, leading to a search that uncovered more than 2,221 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine. Officials estimated the street value of the drugs could range from $133,000 to $444,000, depending on purity.

Kevin David Ringling was charged with trafficking in cocaine and taken before a magistrate, where he was issued a $1,000,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, October 27.
