ILLINOIS — A 38-year-old Effingham man was arrested Monday after authorities seized hundreds of grams of drugs while executing a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation.

According to a joint press release from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office and the Effingham Police Department, officers executed the warrant March 9 in the 100 block of South Willow Street. The operation involved assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the ILEAS Special Response Team.

Investigators said they recovered a substantial amount of crystal methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms and a DMT extraction laboratory, along with a large quantity of DMT and other controlled substances. Authorities also reported finding evidence consistent with the manufacture and distribution of narcotics.

Allen G. Matlock, 38, of Effingham, was taken into custody without incident. He faces several charges, including delivery of methamphetamine between 15 and 100 grams, possession of methamphetamine between 15 and 100 grams, delivery of a controlled substance between 50 and 200 grams, manufacture of a controlled substance between 400 and 900 grams and possession of a controlled substance between 400 and 900 grams.

Officials said the Effingham Fire Department and the Illinois State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team also assisted during the search.

Matlock remains in custody at the Effingham County Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing and formal charging.

Officials said the case highlights ongoing cooperation between local and federal law enforcement agencies to combat drug activity in the area.
