FLORIDA — A Sarasota man was arrested after probation officers said they discovered evidence suggesting he was involved in illegal drug trafficking, according to an arrest report.
The Sarasota Police Department said 35-year-old Demarius R. Jones reported to probation and parole for a check-in earlier this week. During the visit, officers reviewed Jones’ phone and found text messages referencing the sale of narcotics.
Following the discovery, probation officers conducted a warrantless search of Jones’ home in the 3000 block of 31 Way. Investigators said they found suspected illegal drugs in plain view along with two digital scales.
Authorities then obtained a search warrant and carried out a more thorough search of the residence. During that search, officers reported finding approximately 90.2 grams of fentanyl, 25.9 grams of cocaine, 39 grams of marijuana, as well as multiple pills including amphetamine, dextroamphetamine and hydromorphone.
Officers also recovered packaging materials, including plastic bags and straws, two digital scales with white powder residue, a round of .223 rifle ammunition and more than $10,000 in cash.
Jones was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including trafficking in fentanyl, possession of cocaine with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a church, possession of controlled substances, possession of marijuana, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Sarasota Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
