LOUISIANA — A Gretna man has been arrested following a home invasion that occurred Sunday night in Terrebonne Parish, according to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident happened shortly before 10:45 p.m. at an apartment complex on Thomas Drive. Authorities received a call reporting a burglary in progress from a child who told dispatchers that an unknown man had forced his way into the apartment and was attacking her mother.

Officials said dispatchers could hear yelling and signs of a disturbance in the background during the call.

When deputies arrived, they found the victim and the child, along with evidence of a disturbance and minor injuries to the woman. Investigators also reported signs of forced entry, including a shattered window and a large wooden post believed to have been used to gain access to the residence.

Authorities said the victim told deputies she had met the suspect earlier that day through a social media dating platform and had briefly met him outside her home before he left.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old David Michael Blackwell of Gretna, later returned uninvited, forced his way inside and physically attacked the woman. The victim reported being struck and choked during the incident, temporarily affecting her ability to breathe.

Blackwell fled before deputies arrived, but the victim provided a description of him, his vehicle and license plate.

Deputies later located the suspect’s vehicle behind a building on Prospect Boulevard and took Blackwell into custody.

He is charged with home invasion and is being held on a $50,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
