
ILLINOIS — A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a woman with life-threatening injuries early Tuesday morning in Decatur.
According to Decatur police, a 62-year-old woman was struck by an SUV at the intersection of Oakland and Eldorado avenues around 2:21 a.m. The driver did not stop after the crash.
Police later located the SUV involved but initially did not announce an arrest. On Wednesday morning, officials confirmed that Darkece T. Johnson was taken into custody at approximately 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Johnson was booked into the Macon County Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to give aid or information.
Authorities said Johnson was on parole at the time of his arrest, and the Illinois Department of Corrections has placed a parole hold on him.
The crash remains under investigation by the Decatur Police Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team and Criminal Investigations Unit.
