One person arrested following high speed chase in Ohio

OHIO — A man has been arrested following a 35-minute high-speed police chase Monday night in Fostoria, according to the Fostoria Police Department.

Police said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop just before 8 p.m. near West Culbertson Street and North Union Street. When officers initiated the stop, the driver fled.

Authorities identified the driver as Sean Dayton, who police said had active warrants and was connected to a felony theft investigation from the previous day.

According to officials, the pursuit lasted approximately 35 minutes and spanned multiple jurisdictions, with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The chase eventually returned to Fostoria, where a supervisor terminated the pursuit due to increasing pedestrian traffic and the driver’s increasingly reckless behavior.

Officers later located the vehicle in the 800 block of Lynn Street. Police said Dayton was seen running from the area and was taken into custody a short distance away after attempting to enter a passing vehicle.

Dayton was transported to a local hospital before being booked into the Seneca County Jail.

He faces charges including failure to comply, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and theft. Authorities said additional charges may be pending.

Police reported no injuries or crashes resulting from the chase, though both the suspect’s vehicle and a police cruiser sustained mechanical damage.

The investigation remains ongoing.
