OHIO — A high-speed pursuit that stretched across Logan and Hardin counties on Sunday afternoon ended in the arrest of a Lima man who fled from deputies and later crashed his vehicle, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.
The chase began shortly before 4 p.m. when deputies attempted a traffic stop on U.S. Route 33 for a speeding and erratic driver.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Rayvon Holmen Jr., initially pulled over near Lima Street and Vine Street in Huntsville. As deputies approached the white Ford Expedition, Holmen sped off, fleeing the stop.
Deputies pursued the SUV through several residential streets in Huntsville, including Napoleon, Wishart, and Fourth, before Holmen drove through a grassy area and re-entered State Route 117 northbound. According to the report, Holmen weaved through traffic and reached speeds of up to 113 miles per hour.
The pursuit continued into Hardin County, but deputies terminated the chase near Roundhead due to safety concerns. Minutes later, dispatchers received a report of a crash at State Route 235 and Center Street. Deputies arrived to find the suspect vehicle wrecked and abandoned, with witnesses reporting a man running from the scene.
A multi-agency search was launched, involving officers from Logan and Hardin counties as well as Washington Township Police. Deputies soon located a man near an abandoned property on Mill Street. Fresh footprints led officers to a shed covered with tarps, where Holmen surrendered after commands to exit.
Deputies say Holmen was found carrying $3,700 in cash, three cell phones, and two sets of keys, one belonging to the crashed SUV. K9 Tega later tracked the escape route and located a wallet and documents linked to Holmen.
Holmen was taken to the Logan County Jail and booked on a felony charge of failure to comply. Additional charges may be considered as the investigation proceeds.
