One person arrested following high speed chase in Ohio

OHIO — A Warren man was arrested Friday night following a high-speed police chase that spanned Sharon, Pennsylvania, and Brookfield Township, Ohio.

According to a Brookfield Township Police Department report, the chase began in Sharon and continued into Ohio, prompting local officers to assist.

Police say the suspect vehicle was driving erratically through Masury before being spotted by a Brookfield officer on Standard Avenue near Elm Street.

As the officer attempted to move his cruiser out of the roadway with sirens activated, the suspect vehicle nearly struck him. The officer then joined Sharon police in pursuit.

Authorities say the chase reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before the suspect’s vehicle was stopped using spike strips deployed by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

However, the driver, identified as 24-year-old Xavier Ford, fled on foot. Officers pursued him into a wooded area, where he was eventually captured.

According to police, Ford admitted to fleeing from Sharon officers multiple times and using the same escape route. He also claimed he was typically able to evade capture due to delays in dispatching across the state line.

Ford had an active warrant in Pennsylvania, though the report did not specify the charge.

Court records from Mercer County show he pleaded no contest to Corruption of Minors in 2020 but had fallen delinquent on monthly payments in the case.

Additional charges, including failure to comply, driving under suspension, resisting arrest, and reckless operation, are expected to be filed in Trumbull County.
