INDIANA — One person was arrested Dec. 31 after leading state police on a vehicle pursuit in Steuben County, according to authorities.
The Indiana State Police said the chase began just before 9:30 a.m. when a trooper observed a Dodge Charger traveling about 105 mph on Interstate 69. Police said the driver failed to stop despite emergency lights being activated and continued northbound.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle left the roadway near Steuben County Road 200 West and became stuck in a creek. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Dakota Carter of Fort Wayne, was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported.
During the investigation, troopers located a handgun in the creek that police believe was thrown from the vehicle during the chase. The Indiana State Police Underwater Search and Rescue Team was called to the scene and successfully recovered the weapon.
Carter faces multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and criminal recklessness with a vehicle while possessing a handgun. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the Angola Police Department assisted at the scene. Anyone seeking additional information is asked to contact the Indiana State Police Fort Wayne Post.
