NORTH CAROLINA — A traffic stop for a window tint violation led to the arrest of a man on felony heroin trafficking charges Tuesday afternoon in Granville County, according to the Granville County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. along N.C. 56 when a deputy assigned to the sheriff’s office Community Engagement Unit stopped a black Toyota Avalon for the violation.

After stopping the vehicle, Deputy Lt. Mark Harrison informed the driver of the reason for the stop and requested assistance from additional deputies, officials said. A K-9 unit was called to the scene, where K-9 Justin conducted an open-air search around the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the dog alerted to the odor of narcotics, giving deputies probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, deputies found 20 bricks of heroin — roughly 1,000 dosage units — along with about a half-ounce of marijuana.

The driver, identified as 35-year-old Kevin S. Green, was arrested and charged with trafficking opium or heroin, a Class E felony, and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for controlled substances. He also faces misdemeanor charges of a window tint violation, driving while license revoked and possession of marijuana up to half an ounce.

Green appeared before a Granville County magistrate and was given a $70,000 secured bond. According to court records, he later posted bond and was released Tuesday.
