SOUTH CAROLINA — A routine traffic stop turned into a significant drug and weapon seizure, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old passenger, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said that Sammie Green was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana after deputies discovered drugs and firearms in the vehicle.
The incident occurred Monday when the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Community Response Team (CRT) pulled over a vehicle whose driver had failed to maintain his lane.
As a deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed a handgun inside and called for backup.
Ravenell said a further search uncovered another handgun, ammunition, a scale, and 18 multi-colored packages of marijuana totaling more than 154 grams.
“This was just good observation and paying attention to what’s going on,” the sheriff said. “The traffic stop was just a regular stop until the CRT team saw what was in the car.”
The driver was cited for failing to maintain his lane and for not having proof of insurance.
