SOUTH CAROLINA — A late-night traffic stop on Wednesday, Dec. 10, led to the arrest of a man after deputies discovered cocaine and other narcotics, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they observed a vehicle being driven by someone they knew to have a suspended driver’s license. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Jaquan Frederick Dewand Murray-Benjamin, stopped and then attempted to flee on foot.

Deputies detained Murray-Benjamin and reported seeing suspected crack cocaine in plain view inside the vehicle. A probable-cause search of the vehicle was then conducted, which led to the discovery of additional illegal narcotics.

According to the sheriff’s office, the cocaine found in Murray-Benjamin’s possession had an approximate total field weight of more than 66 grams.

Murray-Benjamin was transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held awaiting trial. His total bond was set at $106,600.
