OHIO — A man wanted on a prior drug charge was arrested early Friday on a felony-one-level drug charge after a traffic stop on the South Side, Youngstown police said.
Darrian Brooks, 37, is expected to be arraigned later Friday in municipal court on a charge of possession of crack cocaine.
Police reported that the arrest occurred around 12:10 a.m. after officers pulled over a car at West LaClede and Hudson avenues for running a stop sign. The vehicle was first observed parked near a house known for drug activity. Brooks was a passenger in the car.
According to reports, the driver told officers he had a gun under his leg and gave permission to search the vehicle.
Officers found a bag behind the driver’s seat containing 13 bags of crack cocaine in varying amounts, some of which were large. Brooks reportedly admitted ownership of the bag.
A records check also showed Brooks is wanted on a separate drug charge in Pittsburgh. The driver was given a warning and released.
