NORTH CAROLINA — A 46-year-old Morehead City woman was arrested Wednesday following a month-long undercover operation by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.

Melissa Rae Guitard was taken into custody after detectives seized 238.1 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators said Guitard frequently traveled outside Carteret County to resupply meth for local distribution.

Guitard was arrested during a traffic stop in Cedar Point as she returned to the county with methamphetamine. She faces multiple charges, including four counts of Level 2 Trafficking Methamphetamine and Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine.

She appeared before District Court Judge Alex Pully on Thursday and was granted a $1,000,000 secured bond. Sheriff Chris Buck praised his detectives, stating, “This case demonstrates that some people refuse to learn from their past mistakes and continue to violate the law. For those offenders, the jail and prison is where they need to be.”

Guitard remains in custody at the Carteret County Jail.
