NORTH CAROLINA — A Whiteville man has been arrested following an investigation into suspected drug activity that led to the discovery of narcotics and a stolen firearm at his home, authorities said.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said Vice/Narcotics detectives and the Heavy Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) executed a search warrant at the residence of Joe Russell Menser in the Pleasant Plains Community after multiple complaints from residents about drug activity near Singletary Road. Detectives conducted surveillance and undercover operations that helped secure the warrant.

Authorities said they seized narcotics, a stolen firearm, and other items during the search.

Menser faces several charges, including felony possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and distribute marijuana, attempted possession of cocaine, maintaining a place for keeping and selling illegal controlled substances, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of drug and marijuana paraphernalia.

Menser is being held at the Columbus County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond.
