NORTH CAROLINA — The Asheville Police Department used drones to assist with the arrest of a man charged with drug and firearm offenses during a search on Sept. 10.

According to a Sept. 11 news release, officers and detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on Granada Street following community complaints about drug activity. Drones were deployed to provide an aerial view and assess safety conditions during the operation.

Four people were detained during the search, including Wayne Devon Gullatte, 59. Gullatte was arrested and charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver Schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police reported seizing a Century Arms pistol, nearly 15 grams of methamphetamine, 0.18 grams of fentanyl, 4.5 amphetamine pills, ammunition, $1,316 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.

Gullatte was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $35,000 secured bond.
