One person arrested following drug bust in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A Rowland man was arrested Monday after a traffic stop in Lumberton led deputies to a stolen vehicle and illegal drugs, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Karon Smith, 24, was pulled over while driving a black Dodge Charger. During the stop, deputies discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from South Carolina.

A subsequent search of the car uncovered cocaine and fentanyl.

Smith is facing multiple charges, including two counts of trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of controlled substance, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Authorities noted that Smith was out on bond at the time of his arrest for prior traffic violations and fleeing arrest charges.

He is currently being held without bond in the Robeson County Detention Center.
